Located in the north of the Netherlands, Terschelling is a small island belonging to Friesland.
The island is famous for its numerous shipwrecks, estimated to 150 around the island, the oldest being 500-year-old.
As the island is quite long, and the shipwrecks frequent (at least in the past), the locals decided to build the "Drenkelingen huisje", the house of those who fell in the water in Dutch.
In that small wooden cabine, castaways could find blankets, water and food to survive waiting for rescue.
Although it is not used anymore, the Drenkelingen is one of the few places in the Netherlands to gaze at the stars and where the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye.
